Assistant Professor Dr. Fawzia Arhim Hussein<\/strong>, a faculty member in the Department of Architecture at the University of Baghdad, participated in the defense of the Master’s thesis presented by student Ghadeer Ghalib Abdul-Kadhim<\/strong>, titled:
\n“Alienation in Urban Spaces.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thesis Overview:<\/strong>
\nThis study explores the relationship between humans and urban space through the concept of alienation<\/em>, regarded as a complex issue with social and morphological dimensions. It arises as a result of the rapid physical and technological transformations experienced in the contemporary urban environment, leading to a disruption or disconnection between people and place. The research aims to analyze how patterns of contemporary urban design either contribute to or mitigate this sense of alienation, through a critical and practical approach to indicators of spatial, social, and psychological alienation within selected urban case studies.<\/p>\n

Key Finding:<\/strong>
\nThe thesis concludes that reducing spatial alienation significantly contributes to addressing social alienation. Therefore, emphasis should be placed on creating spaces that promote social interaction and communication among residents, thus restoring balance between spatial and social dimensions.<\/p>\n

\nThe thesis defense took place on Thursday, April 24, 2025<\/strong>, in the Department of Architecture at the University of Babylon.<\/p>\n
