{"id":7830,"date":"2025-04-16T09:57:27","date_gmt":"2025-04-16T06:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.coeng.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=7830"},"modified":"2025-04-16T09:57:27","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T06:57:27","slug":"environmental-engineering-students-propose-sustainable-solutions-to-combat-climate-change-in-a-scientific-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.coeng.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=7830","title":{"rendered":"Environmental Engineering Students Propose Sustainable Solutions to Combat Climate Change in a Scientific Workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"217\" data-end=\"553\">Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, Dean of the College of Engineering \u2013 University of Baghdad, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Iyad Abdul Hamza, Head of the Environmental Engineering Department, a scientific workshop titled <strong data-start=\"474\" data-end=\"517\">\u201cThe Impacts of Climate Change in Iraq\u201d<\/strong> was held on Monday, April 14, 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"555\" data-end=\"788\">The event featured active participation from the <em data-start=\"604\" data-end=\"636\">Environmental Protection Squad<\/em>\u2014a distinguished student team comprising third- and fourth-year students\u2014under the direct supervision of Assist. Prof. Dr. Haider Mohammed Abdul Hameed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"790\" data-end=\"1061\">The workshop aimed to highlight the major environmental and climate challenges facing Iraq, while presenting scientifically grounded solutions based on accurate local data. These topics were explored across six key research themes presented by the participating students:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1063\" data-end=\"1906\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1063\" data-end=\"1221\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1065\" data-end=\"1221\">The <strong data-start=\"1069\" data-end=\"1084\">first theme<\/strong>, presented by <em data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1112\">Ahmed Aboud<\/em> (4th year), addressed the issue of <strong data-start=\"1148\" data-end=\"1179\">surface ozone concentration<\/strong> and strategies to reduce its emissions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1222\" data-end=\"1348\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1224\" data-end=\"1348\">In the <strong data-start=\"1231\" data-end=\"1247\">second theme<\/strong>, <em data-start=\"1249\" data-end=\"1264\">Shukran Ahmed<\/em> (3rd year) discussed <strong data-start=\"1286\" data-end=\"1306\">carbon pollution<\/strong> and sustainable treatment technologies.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1349\" data-end=\"1475\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1351\" data-end=\"1475\">The <strong data-start=\"1355\" data-end=\"1370\">third theme<\/strong>, led by <em data-start=\"1379\" data-end=\"1393\">Yousef Asaad<\/em> (3rd year), focused on <strong data-start=\"1417\" data-end=\"1442\">river water pollution<\/strong> resulting from hospital waste.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1476\" data-end=\"1601\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1478\" data-end=\"1601\"><em data-start=\"1478\" data-end=\"1490\">Safa Fariq<\/em> (4th year) tackled the <strong data-start=\"1514\" data-end=\"1539\">causes of dust storms<\/strong> and proposed mitigation strategies in the <strong data-start=\"1582\" data-end=\"1598\">fourth theme<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1602\" data-end=\"1758\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1604\" data-end=\"1758\">In the <strong data-start=\"1611\" data-end=\"1626\">fifth theme<\/strong>, <em data-start=\"1628\" data-end=\"1641\">Shahd Ahmed<\/em> (4th year) addressed the issue of <strong data-start=\"1676\" data-end=\"1707\">rising temperatures in Iraq<\/strong> and environmentally friendly adaptation methods.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1759\" data-end=\"1906\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1761\" data-end=\"1906\">The workshop concluded with the <strong data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"1808\">sixth theme<\/strong>, where <em data-start=\"1816\" data-end=\"1829\">Ahmed Kamal<\/em> (3rd year) explored <strong data-start=\"1850\" data-end=\"1870\">renewable energy<\/strong> and its environmental applications.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1908\" data-end=\"2338\">At the close of the session, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, commended the students for their outstanding efforts and high-quality research.
