The research aimed to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Assess shear resistance<\/strong> by analyzing the impact of <strong>varying GFRP longitudinal reinforcement ratios<\/strong> on load-carrying capacity, stiffness, crack control, and serviceability.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Study crack behavior<\/strong> by evaluating <strong>crack width, crack spacing, and alignment with ACI 440.1R-15 serviceability limits<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Compare GFRP and steel stirrups<\/strong> with different <strong>stirrup spacings (70 mm to 480 mm)<\/strong> to analyze their effect on <strong>shear strength, stiffness, and ultimate load capacity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Identify optimal reinforcement configurations<\/strong> for enhanced <strong>durability and sustainability<\/strong> while ensuring structural serviceability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Experimental Methodology<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Strain gauges and LVDTs<\/strong> were used for precise deformation measurements.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Digital Image Correlation (DIC)<\/strong> was employed to track crack propagation under incremental loads.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A crack measuring camera<\/strong> recorded crack width at each load stage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Key Findings and Recommendations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Higher reinforcement ratios improve<\/strong> strength, stiffness, and crack control, but exceeding <strong>1.35<\/strong> leads to reduced load-carrying capacity due to <strong>bond limitations<\/strong>, as indicated by horizontal cracks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GFRP stirrups, when properly designed<\/strong>, offer comparable structural performance to steel stirrups for <strong>narrow stirrup spacings (70 mm to 125 mm)<\/strong>, making them a viable alternative for corrosion-resistant applications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Thesis Outcome<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After the <strong>scientific discussion and evaluation<\/strong> by the <strong>examination committee<\/strong>, <strong>Thar Mohammed Hamed<\/strong> was awarded a <strong>Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering)<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery interval=&#8221;3&#8243; images=&#8221;7624&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held a public defense for Master\u2019s student Thar Mohammed Hamed &#8230; <a class=\"cz_readmore\" href=\"https:\/\/en.coeng.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=7622\"><i class=\"fa fa-angle-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><span>\u0627\u0644\u0645\u0632\u064a\u062f<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":165,"featured_media":7623,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[35,31],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7622","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-civil-engineering","category-thesis"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.8 -
