{"id":7618,"date":"2025-03-26T09:35:00","date_gmt":"2025-03-26T06:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.coeng.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=7618"},"modified":"2025-03-26T09:35:00","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T06:35:00","slug":"masters-thesis-defense-on-sustainable-school-buildings-at-the-university-of-baghdad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.coeng.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=7618","title":{"rendered":"Master\u2019s Thesis Defense on Sustainable School Buildings at the University of Baghdad"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad<\/strong> hosted the public discussion of <strong>Nour Diaa Rajab&#8217;s<\/strong> master&#8217;s thesis from the <strong>Department of Civil Engineering<\/strong>, titled:<br \/>\n<strong>&#8220;Evaluation of Sustainable Requirements in the Iraqi School Building.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The defense took place on <strong>Monday, February 24, 2025<\/strong>, in <strong>Dr. Khaled Shaker Hall<\/strong>, under the supervision of <strong>Prof. Dr. Hatem Khaleefah Breesam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Research Overview<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Achieving <strong>sustainability in school buildings<\/strong> has profound environmental, economic, and social benefits. <strong>Iraq\u2019s educational infrastructure<\/strong> faces several challenges, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rapid urbanization<\/strong> and rising energy demands.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aging school buildings<\/strong> lacking sustainable design.<\/li>\n<li><strong>High energy consumption<\/strong> and inefficient resource use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The research highlights how <strong>sustainable practices<\/strong> in the education sector can <strong>reduce operating costs, improve student well-being, conserve resources, enhance air quality, and manage waste efficiently<\/strong>. Additionally, sustainable schools play a crucial role in <strong>raising environmental awareness<\/strong> among students.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Research Methodology<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The study aimed to develop a <strong>comprehensive framework<\/strong> for assessing and promoting <strong>sustainable school buildings<\/strong> in Iraq.
