The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad witnessed the public defense of master\u2019s student Inas Mohammed Rashid from the Civil Engineering Department, specializing in Construction and Project Management.<\/p>\n

The defense took place on Thursday, February 27, 2025<\/strong>, in the Euphrates Hall<\/strong>, under the supervision of Dr. Mervat Razaq Wali<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Thesis Objectives:<\/h3>\n

The thesis focused on developing a smart city index in Iraq<\/strong>, specifically in the construction sector. The study aimed to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Integrate smart infrastructure (such as the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence<\/strong>) to enhance facilities and public service management<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Promote sustainable practices<\/strong> by assessing environmental impacts<\/strong> (energy consumption, carbon emissions) and implementing green building technologies<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Improve project management<\/strong> by ensuring progress tracking, adherence to schedules, and minimizing delays.<\/li>\n

    Key Recommendations:<\/h3>\n

    The thesis concluded with several recommendations for advancing smart city development<\/strong> in Iraq:<\/p>\n

    1. Engaging all stakeholders<\/strong> throughout all phases<\/strong> of construction projects to align smart city initiatives with community needs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    2. Utilizing real-time data collection<\/strong> and Internet of Things technologies<\/strong> to enhance assessment accuracy and decision-making<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    3. Establishing training programs<\/strong> for engineers, planners, and policymakers in collaboration with academic institutions<\/strong> to strengthen expertise in smart city planning.<\/li>\n
    4. Adopting a systematic approach<\/strong> for monitoring and evaluating smart city projects, with periodic reviews and updates<\/strong> to improve strategies.<\/li>\n
    5. Enhancing cooperation between the construction, IT, energy, and transportation sectors<\/strong> to ensure an integrated approach<\/strong> to smart city development.<\/li>\n
    6. Integrating sustainability principles<\/strong> into all projects, such as energy efficiency, renewable resources, and innovative environmental practices<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    7. Strengthening governance through transparent, data-driven policies<\/strong> to build trust and align with smart city objectives.<\/li>\n
    8. Implementing structured programs to incorporate citizen feedback into decision-making processes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Thesis Outcome:<\/h3>\n
