It was conducted on Thursday, 14\/11\/2024, in the Dr. Ihsan Yahya Hall in the mechanical Engineering Department.\u00a0 the discussion of the master’s thesis of the student Lamyaa Mahdi Ali<\/strong>, which is tagged:<\/p>\n

” Comparative Performance Study of Using MR-Damper with Semi-active Suspension System”.<\/p>\n

The discussion committee consisted of names listed below:<\/p>\n

This thesis studied and simulated the semi-active suspension system using Magneto-Rheological (MR) damper technology with the quarter-car model to simulate the system’s response through the MATLAB\/Simulink environment. MR dampers are adaptive devices whose properties can be adjusted through the application of a controlled voltage signal. A semi-active suspension system incorporating MR dampers combines the advantages of both active and passive suspensions. For this reason, there has been a continuous effort to develop control algorithms for MR-damped vehicle suspension systems to meet the requirements of the automotive industry. This thesis aims the performance comparison of two different suspension \u200esystems, in particular the Semi-active Suspension System (SASS) and the \u200ePassive Suspension System (PSS). Comparison is made by Experimental \u200eand MATLAB\/Simulink using a representative two-degree-of-freedom car \u200emodel to evaluate and compare the performance results of these systems.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Accordingly, the thesis included recommendations including:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Using SASS systems with controllers as they outperform PSS systems in terms of suspension tuning and response time.<\/li>\n
  2. The SASS system eliminates oscillations faster than the PSS system for step, bump, and random inputs<\/li>\n
  3. Using the Skyhook control method improves the control system’s performance in overcoming damping for random road profiles.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
