The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held a public discussion for PhD candidate (Laila Sadiq Mohammed) in the Department of Petroleum Engineering regarding her dissertation titled:<\/p>\n

Enhancing Oil Recovery from Qayyarah Oil Field Using Thermal Processes<\/p>\n

The discussion took place on Monday, October 14, 2024, in the Graduate Hall of the Petroleum Engineering Department, under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Samira Mohammed Hamdallah. The examination committee consisted of the following professors:<\/p>\n

  6. Associate Prof. Dr. Samira Mohammed Hamdallah (Member and Supervisor)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Objective of the Study<\/p>\n

    The dissertation focused on the development of the Qayyarah oil field, known for its heavy, highly viscous oils. The field has suffered from extremely low production for decades. The study applied thermal recovery methods to the field and predicted its behavior over the next ten years. The research showed a significant improvement in the field\u2019s productivity during the upcoming decade. The methods used included:<\/p>\n

    1. Huff n Puff<\/li>\n
    2. Steam Injection<\/li>\n
    3. Segregated Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

       <\/p>\n

      Conclusion<\/p>\n

      The study concluded that the Segregated Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) method provided the highest oil recovery rates compared to the other methods.<\/p>\n

      After the scientific discussion by the committee members and the defense of the candidate, the researcher was awarded a PhD in Petroleum Engineering with distinction.<\/p>\n
