The Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdulmajid, chaired the public defense committee for the master’s thesis presented by student Fayan Mohammed Ahmed in the Department of Petroleum Engineering. The defense took place on Thursday, August 22, 2024, in the Graduate Studies Hall of the Petroleum Engineering Department, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Iyad Abdulhalim Abdulrazzaq.<\/p>\n

The study focused on analyzing the properties of the Triassic reservoir in the Ajil field, with a detailed examination of the Greeb, Dhiban, and Furat formations, aiming to evaluate the petrophysical properties and develop 3D models of these properties. The data used in the study included well log data, core data, final well reports, as well as pressure, volume, and temperature (PVT) data.<\/p>\n

The findings revealed that the Triassic reservoir in the Ajil field is primarily composed of dolomite, with the presence of limestone and anhydrite, and exhibits variability in petrophysical properties among the different formations. It was found that the Furat Formation has the best petrophysical properties, with higher porosity and permeability compared to the Greeb and Dhiban formations. The oil in place (IOIP) was estimated to be approximately 792.32 million barrels, and the gas initially in place (GIIP) was estimated at about 31.469 billion cubic meters.<\/p>\n

The thesis concluded with several important recommendations, including:
\n– Focusing on developing exploration and production strategies based on detailed petrophysical properties of the reservoir.
\n– Paying special attention to the Furat Formation due to its high quality.
\n– Utilizing 3D models to guide effective reservoir evaluation and management.
\n– Conducting periodic analyses to update reserve estimates and improve exploration and production strategies.<\/p>\n
