On Sunday, March 10, 2024, the Department of Architecture actively participated in a seminar organized by Baghdad Municipality titled “The Splitting of Residential Units in Baghdad City.” The event, inaugurated by Mr. Baghdad’s Mayor, drew notable attendees including Prof. Ghada Al-Salik, Assoc. Prof. Abdul-Hussain Al-Askari, Mr. Ahmed Natiq, and Ms. Amina Basim.<\/p>\n

Professor Ghada Al-Salik delivered a research paper shedding light on the adverse consequences of splitting residential units in many neighborhoods across Baghdad. She also proposed potential solutions to preserve residential integrity, such as pre-designing with new legislation for ownership of additional floors in residential units.<\/p>\n

During the discussion session, Assistant Professor Abdul-Hussain Al-Askari emphasized that this issue extends beyond governmental concerns and requires collaborative efforts. He outlined several solutions, including directing housing loans to compliant units, enforcing area standards, and preventing encroachment cases.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ahmed Natiq underscored the importance of addressing the broader urban landscape when proposing solutions. He advocated for new legislation to regulate smaller residential areas.<\/p>\n
