You may have heard the phrase “International Women\u2019s Day” mentioned in the media or among friends ‘ conversations. But why is this particular day dedicated to women? The idea that this day should be universal was voiced by the mind of a woman named Clara Zetkin. Clara was a left-wing activist and feminist and proposed the idea in 1910, and it was at an international conference of working women in the Danish capital Copenhagen, where this idea was unanimously approved by the audience to be the first celebration of this day globally in 1911, and the celebration of International Women’s day acquired an official character in 1975, when the United Nations began to celebrate that day and then the eighth of March became a date for the global celebration of women regardless of their position in society.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, in celebration of the 114th anniversary of International Women’s Day, Professor Dr. Basim Shaba Abed, the chair of the Department, held a ceremony to honor the members of the Department of Water Resources Engineering. During his speech at the event, the head of the department emphasized how such gatherings strengthen the bonds of love and brotherhood among department members and expressed his gratitude for their contributions to the educational process, whether through theoretical lectures or practical lessons. In response, the members of the department expressed their appreciation to the department chair and the professors in attendance.<\/p>\n
