The Department of Architecture Engineering conducted the dissertation defense for the doctoral thesis titled “Integrated Management of Major Architectural Projects in Iraq” by Ph.D. candidate Munaaf Fuad Hassan on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, in the Mohammad Makkiya Hall within the department.<\/p>\n

The examination committee comprised the following members:
\n– Dr. Safaa Al-Din Hussein (Chair)
\n– Assoc. Prof. Dhaabas Fadel Ibrahim (Member)
\n– Assoc. Prof. Zainab Radi Abbas (Member)
\n– Assoc. Prof. Fawzia Arheem Hussein (Member)
\n– Assoc. Prof. Zainab Khalid Ahmed (Member)
\n– Assoc. Prof. Sajida Kazim Alawi (Member and Supervisor)<\/p>\n

After thorough discussion and evaluation of the research project, the candidate was awarded a Ph.D. in Architecture Engineering with a satisfactory rating.<\/p>\n

Research Objectives:
\nThe research aims to establish a comprehensive theoretical framework for the aspects of integrated management of major architectural projects in Iraq. It identifies key strategies and practical steps to enhance the performance of these projects and increase their chances of success.<\/p>\n

1. Significance of the Topic:
\nMajor architectural projects play a significant role in the economic, social, cultural, and political aspects of a region. Their success contributes to urban development, stability, and efficient use of resources in the vital construction sector.<\/p>\n

2. Relevance to Knowledge and Application:
\nProject management is crucial in organizing and coordinating activities across various administrative, economic, informational, and engineering disciplines. The study highlights the increasing importance of project management in today’s complex and technologically advanced environment.<\/p>\n

3. Local Importance:
\nThe research is particularly relevant locally due to the scale of major projects in Iraq and the financial allocation for government projects. Many of these projects face challenges such as delays, cost overruns, and compromised quality, impacting the satisfaction of stakeholders.<\/p>\n

Recommendations:
\n– Adopt professional project management practices from the early stages of planning and design to systematic implementation.
\n– Implement the proposed framework, including the development of relevant legislation, forming specialized development teams, enhancing capacities of all stakeholders, establishing project management offices at all levels, and adopting human resource development programs.
\n– Evaluate the success or failure of reconstruction experiences in Iraq over the past two decades carefully, as reconstruction efforts can significantly impact societal peace and stability.
\n– Ensure relevant authorities are responsible for providing necessary funding and legal protection to maintain high-quality standards for these types of projects, preventing cost and schedule overruns, thereby improving their chances of success.<\/p>\n
