In recognition and appreciation of his scientific efforts in supporting the Iraqi Journal of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, which resulted in the citation of more than five times for one of his articles published in the journal, Prof. Dr. Ammar Salih Abbas, Professor of Reactor Design in the Department of Chemical Engineering, received a letter of thanks and appreciation from the President of the University of Baghdad, which is a step to encourage researchers to publish in Iraqi journals and enhance their position in international forums.<\/p>\n
The tagged research \u201cPyrolysis of High-density Polyethylene for the Production of Fuel-like Liquid Hydrocarbon\u201d is summarized: Pyrolysis of high density polyethylene (HDPE) was carried out in a 750 cm3stainless steel autoclave reactor, with\u00a0 temperature\u00a0 ranging\u00a0 from\u00a0 470\u00a0 to\u00a0 495\u00b0\u00a0 C\u00a0 and\u00a0 reaction\u00a0 times\u00a0 up\u00a0 to\u00a0 90 minute.\u00a0 The\u00a0 influence\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 operating conditions on the component yields was studied. It was found that the optimum cracking condition for HDPE that maximized the oil yield to 70 wt. % was 480\u00b0C and 20 minutes. The results show that for higher cracking temperature, and longer reaction times there was higher production of gas and coke. Furthermore, higher temperature increases the aromatics and produce lighter oil with lower viscosity.<\/p>\n
