The thesis, entitled <strong>\u201cStudy of the Properties of Slurry-Infiltrated Fiber Concrete Using Different Curing Methods under External Sulfate Attack,\u201d<\/strong> was defended on <strong>Sunday, August 9, 2026<\/strong>, in the Prof. Dr. Khalid Shakir Hall, under the supervision of <strong>Prof. Dr. Zeina Khudhair Abbas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The study aimed to investigate the properties of <strong>Slurry-Infiltrated Fiber Concrete (SIFCON)<\/strong> and evaluate the effects of different external curing methods on its mechanical and physical performance. It also examined the durability of SIFCON when exposed to external sulfate attack, comparing its behavior under continuous immersion and wetting\u2013drying cycles, with the objective of identifying the most effective curing method and assessing the resistance of this type of concrete to severe sulfate environments.<\/p>\n<p>The thesis included the preparation of SIFCON specimens containing <strong>6% steel fibers<\/strong> and the investigation of different production methods to determine the most suitable technique. The specimens were subsequently subjected to four curing methods: <strong>water curing, steam curing, wet burlap curing, and membrane curing<\/strong>. Selected specimens were also exposed to a severe sulfate solution under two exposure regimes: continuous immersion and wetting\u2013drying cycles.<\/p>\n<p>The experimental program included tests for <strong>compressive strength, flexural strength, splitting tensile strength, impact resistance, density, water absorption, and mass change<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The thesis reached several conclusions and recommendations, the most important of which were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>hybrid mixing method<\/strong> demonstrated the best efficiency in distributing the fibers and reducing voids and was therefore adopted for producing the subsequent specimens.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Steam curing<\/strong> achieved the best mechanical performance, followed by <strong>membrane curing<\/strong>, while <strong>wet burlap curing<\/strong> showed the lowest efficiency.<\/li>\n<li>SIFCON exhibited good resistance to sulfate attack for up to <strong>90 days<\/strong>, with more noticeable deterioration after <strong>120 days<\/strong>, particularly under wetting\u2013drying cycles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Following the scientific discussion by the members of the examination committee, the researcher\u2019s defense, and the evaluation of the thesis, the committee recommended awarding the researcher the <strong>Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering \/ Building Materials Engineering<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery interval=&#8221;3&#8243; images=&#8221;12053&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;] The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held a public defense for the Master\u2019s thesis of &#8230; <a class=\"cz_readmore\" href=\"https:\/\/en.coeng.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=12051\"><i class=\"fa fa-angle-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><span>\u0627\u0644\u0645\u0632\u064a\u062f<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":165,"featured_media":12054,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[35,31],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-12051","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-civil-engineering","category-thesis"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
