The Human Rights Unit at the College of Engineering, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a scientific workshop titled \u201cThe Engineering Student as an Active Citizen in Political Participation and Social Responsibility.\u201d<\/em> The workshop was delivered by the Head of the Unit, Dr. Israa Abdulali Kadhim, for first-year students in the Department of Environmental Engineering.<\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to enhance students\u2019 awareness of their societal role, promote the principles of active citizenship, and highlight the importance of political participation and social responsibility as fundamental pillars in shaping the university student\u2019s character. This aligns with the university\u2019s mission to prepare scientifically competent individuals who are aware and influential within their communities.<\/p>\n

The workshop addressed several key topics, including the role of engineers in serving society through contributing to solving public issues and participating in shaping policies with environmental and developmental dimensions. It also emphasized the importance of utilizing scientific and technical skills to provide practical solutions to challenges related to resource management, environmental protection, and supporting institutional reform efforts.<\/p>\n

The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, in which Dr. Israa Abdulali Kadhim stressed the importance of promoting a culture of informed participation among students, encouraging engagement in volunteer activities and community initiatives, and supporting programs that develop their capabilities in public service. She also highlighted the need to expand cooperation between academic institutions and relevant stakeholders in order to contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
