Assistant Lecturer Israa Hafidh Qadir, a faculty member at the College of Engineering \/ University of Baghdad and a member of the Human Rights Committee at the college, delivered a scientific workshop titled \u201cCombating the Phenomenon of Suicide.\u201d The workshop was organized by the Continuing Education Unit at the Laser and Optoelectronics Engineering Department – Institute of Laser for Postgraduate Studies, in cooperation with the Human Rights Unit at the College of Engineering, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. This event was part of the institute\u2019s efforts to raise awareness about psychological and behavioral issues.<\/p>\n

The workshop was attended by the Dean of the Institute, Prof. Kazem Abdul Wahid Adem, the Assistant Dean Dr. Saif Aqeel Mohammed, along with a group of faculty members and staff.<\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to shed light on the dimensions of suicide from a scientific perspective, highlighting the most significant psychological and social factors influencing it. It also focused on enhancing community awareness of prevention mechanisms and the role of educational institutions in supporting mental health and creating safe and supportive learning environments.<\/p>\n

The workshop topics included a scientific analysis of the causes associated with the phenomenon, supported by recent statistics and studies illustrating the scale of the challenge. It also reviewed a set of preventive strategies focusing on strengthening family and institutional support, activating psychological counseling channels, and implementing early intervention for high-risk groups.<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the workshop, the lecturer recommended adopting structured awareness programs within educational institutions, enhancing counseling and psychological support services, and strengthening collaboration between academic and health sectors to develop sustainable solutions that help reduce negative behavioral phenomena.<\/p>\n
