The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad held a public discussion for the master’s thesis submitted by the postgraduate student Qasim Kareem Ali from the Department of Energy Engineering, titled:
“Preparation and Characterization of Membrane Incorporated with Thermodynamically Stable Nano-Palladium for Hydrogen Separation”
The discussion took place on Thursday, 2025/11/27, in the Conference Hall of the Department of Civil Engineering, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Muayed Khalel Ibrahime and Asst. Prof. Dr. Wisam Jaleel Khudhayer.
The thesis aimed to prepare palladium composite membranes for the separation and purification of hydrogen gas using more than one deposition method and to study the physical and chemical properties of the manufactured membranes using known laboratory and practical characteristic methods.
The thesis included several recommendations, among them:
- Investigation of the Hybridization of the electroless plating technique with an electric current to accelerate the deposition process of palladium membrane.
- Develop smart control systems to optimize performance under variable operating conditions.
- Perform a full life cycle assessment (LCA) to evaluate the environmental and economic impact of technology.
After the student’s defense and the committee’s deliberation, the examination committee decided to accept the thesis and to award the student a Master’s degree in Energy Engineering with very good grade.
